At Buchanan Construction, based in Asheville, NC, we take great pride in breathing new life into historic homes, and we are thrilled to share our latest project—a complete renovation of a charming 1913 farmhouse in Little Switzerland, NC, just an hour north of Asheville.
Our clients were passionate about maintaining the distinctive character and warmth of their home while enhancing it with modern conveniences. We embraced this challenge and retained the essence of the original structure, preserving the stunning hardwood floors and addressing the signs of age that come with a home rich in history.
Throughout the renovation, we carefully integrated many original features that showcase the house’s unique charm, including:
- The classic clawfoot tub in the master bath
- All original hardwood floors
- Beautifully restored interior doors
- The stately entry double door
- Original hinges and door hardware
- The charming light fixture in the pantry hallway
- The elegant stair railing
- Timeless fireplace mantles
- The built-in cabinet in the dining room
In addition, we meticulously replicated the front porch railing and columns, as well as sections of the front porch ceiling and all door trim, to ensure they matched the originals, combating the effects of rot while maintaining authenticity.
The result is a beautifully transformed home that not only honors its historic roots but also fulfills the modern lifestyle of its owners—bringing them immense satisfaction and joy.
