We were delighted when Southern Living reached out to us about building the 2020 Southern Living Idea House in Asheville. An annual project carried out by Southern Living and a team of expert artisans, the Idea House was an honor to build, and our most collaborative project to date. We worked alongside the SL team, Architects Beau Clowney and Kate Campbell, Interior Designer Lauren Liess, and Landscape Architect Greg Cloos to bring this timeless Southern vision to life. A tale portrayed by many old farmhouses, the Idea House was built to look as though the center cabin was constructed initially, and the smaller spaces surrounding were added on over time as the family expanded and budget allowed.
Functionally, this creates a unique floorplan with open concept living spaces, and a multitude of cozy hideaways. For the interiors, a moody palette of deep greens and earthy tones, historic furnishings, and hand-made textiles create the cozy atmosphere you expect when you step across this home’s doorway. Take a look around – and keep an eye out for the outdoor space, complete with matching dog house!
