Buchanan Construction Receives 2 National Awards For Safety
Last week during the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) IBSx Virtual Experience, Buchanan Construction received two NAHB Safety Awards in Excellence (SAFE Awards). Buchanan was awarded both the Single Family Builder Safety Program of the Year (11-100 home starts per year) and Remodeler Safety Program of the Year, selected for these prestigious awards among hundreds of applications from builders across the Country.
Honored to have received such recognition, owner Rick Buchanan, stated “I’ve always had a strong desire to create a safe work environment for our team and vendors. We decided to take our safety program to another level a little over a year ago when we hired our first Safety Manager, Josh Hollingsworth. Josh has done an amazing job developing an award winning Safety Program. There’s nothing more important than going home to your family the same way you went to work and I could not be more proud of our team.”
Safety Manager Josh Hollingsworth is a certified OSHA Excavation Safety Competent Person, and was selected to join Buchanan’s Team among a competitive applicant pool. Josh quickly became familiar with Buchanan’s safety program, and facilitated it’s exponential growth over the course of a year. Cornerstones of the safety program include inspections conducted by the Safety Manager at the start of each project, followed by weekly inspections by the site supervisor, as well as daily Site Safety Inspection Reports, documented for historical data to assess positive and negative trends.
Buchanan’s employees play an active role in Buchanan’s safety program, with their participation a key component of the program’s overall success. Employees are regularly provided with the support, training, and funds to implement the safety program’s rules and operating procedures.
The Buchanan safety program reaches beyond the traditional, too, with focuses not only on physical, but also mental health, and OSHA Stand Down training events are scheduled such that on-site subcontractors – not just Buchanan employees – can participate and gain from the program. The safety program and training events cover a broad array of topics ranging from ladder safety and heat exhaustion to trench safety, fall protection, COVID-19 practices, and distracted driver awareness.
“At Buchanan we maintain that the safety of our employees and the public is the highest priority. We diligently work to maintain effective standards that will guard against injuries and illnesses occurring on the job to members of our team, subcontractors, clients, and other members of the community,” says Safety Manager Josh Hollingsworth, ” and we consider accident prevention of primary importance in all phases of construction and operations. Overall, our program makes every effort to raise people’s awareness, and go home safely to their families”.

This is my fact.
