Celebrating over 40 years of offering exclusive custom-designed homes, here’s a look at some of the most popular plans offered by Southern Living House Plans. From the first issue of Southern Living, the magazine has featured and sold house plans. These architectural drawings give readers access to some of the South’s top architects, allowing you to build a custom home at an affordable price. While styles and trends may change over the years, we’ve stayed true to designing classic and authentic Southern homes.

Today, we offer more than 1,400 house plans that are just as diverse as our region and the people who live here. Here we’ve rounded up our 12 best-selling house plans of all time, ranging from quaint cottages to roomy family homes. Even though it’s only 656 square feet, the tiny cottage lives large thanks to its vaulted entertaining space, eat-in-kitchen, and inviting front porch.

Here, the architect’s goal was to simplify the floor plan, reducing any wasted square footage to maximize livability. The simple lines and open floor plan, especially the arrangement of the kitchen, eating, and living spaces, help the main floor feel much larger. Plus, with some adjustments to the main floor, the plan can also accommodate an optional basement. And of course, in classic Southern style, the plan offers large porches in the front and rear, providing abundant outdoor living space.
